What is the WMV format
WMV is a video format developed within the Microsoft ecosystem and was very common for years in Windows, presentations, compressed files and older players. It was especially relevant when much of digital video was mainly distributed on desktop computers.
Today WMV is no longer the preferred format for most everyday uses. Converting WMV to MP4 is often recommended to improve compatibility and make the file easier to play on phones, browsers, TVs and modern platforms.
