What is the DAV format
DAV is a file format mainly used by DVR recorders, surveillance systems and security cameras. Unlike more common formats such as MP4 or MOV, DAV files are usually designed to work together with manufacturer software, which is why they often do not play properly in browsers, TVs or standard media players. In some cases, the file may also contain internal structures or recorder-related data in addition to the video itself.
That is why users often convert DAV files when they need to review, share or archive security footage. Converting DAV to a universal format such as MP4 makes the video easier to open on computers, phones, editors and online platforms without relying on the original DVR software. It also helps preserve the footage in a format that is more practical for evidence, backups and everyday access.
